Hi everyone,

I’m Noor, Head Chair of Human Rights Council, where we will be discussing pressing current affairs and the implications it has for the human rights of those involved. ‘The Issue of the Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory’ discusses the Israel-Palestine conflict, one of the most enduring conflicts in the history of the UN, and how the expansion of the Israeli settlement into Jerusalem has threatened the Palestinian human rights situation, including the numerous civilian deaths on the part of the Israeli security forces, the demolition of schools and building, and the loss of Palestinian autonomy. Furthermore, we will explore the human rights implications and humanitarian situation that has resulted from the blockade of the Gaza Strip, as well as actively seeking solutions to prevent another stream of human rights violations, as have been observed in this conflict.

‘The Issue of Racial Discrimination and Intolerance as a Result of the Rise of Far-Right Politics in Western Nations’ explores the increasingly evident right-wing rhetoric in western politics, from President Trump’s demands for the construction of a border wall to the murders of pro-immigration politicians by supporters of the AfD in Germany. In our debate of this topic, we will focus upon the consequences of the rise of such ideology, and the potentially far-reaching and dangerous effects right-wing extremism can have not just with a nation, but on a global stage, and what is we can endeavour to do to prevent the radicalisation of individuals.

I look forward to spectating what promises to be both a critical and productive debate and the generation of resolutions that actively tackle the issues at hand.

I look forward to welcoming you all to MUNHigh 2020 - do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
