NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT AT ST MARY'S HOSPITAL
A testimonial from Bahar and Bisma, members of our charity team:
“The neonatal ward at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital has played a significant role in the lives of many people, with an average of 10,000 premature births every year. However, my sister and I recognise its value on a more personal level having spent 4 months in that unit being born 3 months premature. The lifesaving treatment we received there is something too great to express gratitude for. However, with the constant evolving nature in the treatment of premature babies, it is essential for the staff to remain at the helm of advancing technologies in order to ensure that they can provide the best care possible. To do this, they must have suitable funding which is difficult to obtain through the NHS. Therefore, our choice to fundraise for the neonatal care unit is simply because it presents the opportunity for us to give other new families the chance to have access to the best care and support possible.”
The care and treatment of the babies and their families is paramount and is the primary objective of the unit. They aim to provide the best possible care in an environment that is appropriate for their medical, surgical, developmental and social needs. Babies and their families can always expect care from a highly trained and supervised multi-disciplinary team.
